This header is a pastel painting I did in 2009 is of a place in the Netherlands, my country of origin, after a photo shot by Dick Witte.

Some of the painters who have influenced me:
Mondriaan, Hopper
O"Keefe, Weyeth
Singer Sargent
van Gogh, Rembrandt
Picasso, Escher

Since this is my second blog page, it generally takes me longer (sometimes very long) to reply to your comments, but I do read and love them!

NOTES
- This Oil painting is part of my Celebrity Collection of 15 flowers
that I painted a few years ago.
- All flowers are painted on a 24 x 24 canvas.
- Believe it or not, I spent most time painting on the leaves,
so they would not look stiff or formal.
- Since the Netherlands are going to face their final game
in the world cup soccer this week,
I'll give Holland three cheers with these tulips!

Very nice, I like the tinges of white on the petal edges...makes it look like a backlit photo.

Rebecca,
Very perceptive of you! Now I come to think of it, I work with white a lot to emphasize. First I used it in watercolors and extended it to my oils:)

Well done, Jeanette! You have succeeded in keeping the leaves in supporting rolls to the flowers.

Love your blog...the art and commentary/notes are great.

What a splendid painting of tulips. It is nice to look at this picture and dream of spring!

I'm about to plant the spring bulbs in my Toronto garden. Did you know that every year Holland sends millions of bulbs to the people of Canada, in thanks for having the Dutch royal family in our capital, Ottawa, during the war? They are planted in parks and around our parliament buildings.

What beautiful art you do!

Square,
No I didn't know that, but I totally agree:) I wonder what made the royals choose Canada? Hope your bulbs will come out in Spring!

Judy,
Thank you, Judy! It took some work, but it was worth it!

Charlene,
